Quick Transfer Trick

Here's a trick that I came up with for moving a fish with minimal stress to another smaller tank (assuming that it doesn't already have occupants).

1. Completely drain small tank
2. Replace water with water from the main tank in which the fish currently resides.
3. Provide good hiding places in small tank
4. Catch fish, and place directly in small tank.

Because the fish is going from and to exactly the same water (with very minimal differences, this is something that you have to do in immediate succession) you don't have to worry about slowly getting the fish acclimated to different water parameters and you are able to make the transfer very quickly.

This reduces the stress on the fish as you don't have to go through the process of keeping them in a bag or other container while slowly adding water to acclimate them.
