Little Green flys at the top of tank

I have began to notice these small winged "fruitfly like bugs" that now live on or around the top of the aquarium near the water surface. We also have a window by the aquarium where these "flies" tend to fly to and usually die on the window seal. I have tried numerous times to rid the aquarium of these "flies" when I clean the tank but to no success.

Any idea as to what these are and how to get rid of them?

I have found some other people asking about them (on other sites) but no answers. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

Re: Little Green flys at the top of tank

hey matt. do you have a covered lid on your tank. as an aquarium tech that is the only time i have seen that problem. try lifting the lid for a few days to release a lil humidity. that should help

Re: Little Green flys at the top of tank

I've never seen that before.

As suggested, it might be your hood. What kind of hood do you have on your tank?

Re: Little Green flys at the top of tank

The tank is a 55g acrylic. The top is part of the tank. The top has 2 opening in the back for the filters and 2 bigger slots in the middle for feeding etc... The other night the light fell off and the humidity has dropped significantly. You were right it must have something to do with the amount of moisture as I haven't seen any of the bugs since.
Thank you BikeGuy and Ryan for your help.
