astatotilapia latisfasciata

mine are breeding like crazy!!! i just found another female holding yesterday and will be having one release within the next day or so. thats 4 batches of fry in about a month and a half!! the amazing thing is thats its the same two females! there are two more females to breed with but, i guess they arent his type...lol. i am going to let life happen naturally in the main tank with these two batches as i am still growing out the first two. what would that survival rate be. i expect maybe 10%? i have plenty of hiding places in there where adults cant get to at all. would it be cruel to use these for "snacks". as much as i dislike the thought i have no room to raise this much fry. the first 2 batches yielded about 100- 120 fry together!! one other question...when the female releases her fry in a day or two, will she be ok staying in the main tank or should i put her in her own tank to "fatten" up again. would she breed so soon after releasing? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: astatotilapia latisfasciata

Hi tires,

You'd mentioned before trading some of these guys. After some of your fry are about 2" long I'd be up for trading you some of same.

That'll help us both diversify our gene pools. :)

I remember seeing photos and that you have at least one very clean male and female.

I'll be upgrading the site in the near future so that you and everyone else with a login can have a photogallery section and post info about tanks, equipment, whatever you want.

Still interested in trading some A. latifasciata. Let me know once you've got some that are about 2".

:)
