Tank Setup and Maintenance

This section of the site is devoted to the set-up and maintenance of freshwater aquariums. Many of the concepts and proceedures are applicable to all freshwater fish keeping, although I will be focusing on setups specifically for African cichlids.

The type of aquarium that you set up is going to be dictated by the type and number of fish that you want to maintain.

I know that seems really obvious but you wouldn't believe the number of people who buy any old tank and then put in it any fish that catches their eye, without knowing anything about them.

IMHO, if you are going to keep fish, you should have a minimum of two tanks.

  1. Your Main Tank with your show fish
  2. A Hospital Tank.  Your fish will get sick from time-to-time, and or become injured by their tankmates.
